Around One Table is an invitation into a conversation. It's a conversation about who we are as Episcopalians — our identity, our wellness, our mission — and how our sense of identity is expressed through our lives and the call we explore in ministry.
Here's a sample from the report you can download at this link:
The most important theme for nearly all leaders and members of the Episcopal Church was a sense of identity rooted in and focused on Christ. The how of an Episcopal focus on Christ is often expressed in terms of sacrament, care for one another, prayer, and proclamation. This focus was also increasingly discussed in terms of mission, although mission still remains a concept that does not rise automatically to the surface in people’s descriptions of Episcopal identity.
If that's true, it's promising. There are naysayers who predict the demise of the Episcopal Church. I think they've got it wrong. Surely we live in troubled times. But my sense is that we will survive and indeed may even strengthen as a result of our travails once this civil war is behind us.
